On this Easter Monday, a bit of Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (featured above tempura painting of this title, a vision by William Blake)
The mythical-biblical garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem has some of the oldest olive trees in the world according to an Italian scientific study using carbon dating. Judas is said to have hung himself from one of the trees. Which one?
Garden photo in 1914.
For the less visually inclined there is of course the classic rock opera interpretation by this name, Gethsemane. Jesus Christ Superstar remains a childhood favourite of mine. (Yes, Parenting in the 70s was vastly different. Lullabies rocked. And when that didn’t work there was the ambient smell of…incense.)
