Quilted Landscapes

Airfields. Who would have guessed. This is an airplane graveyard. It’s where the decommissioned commercial American planes go for retirement. The Nevada desert. I thought is was a crazy quilt pattern.

There is an entire photographic tradition of images taken from the sky. Some of these landscapes are like exquisite portraits. Textured like Anselm or Tapies. Others are frightening or disturbing like Otto Dix’s trenches.

I will get around to posting on various landscape art traditions. And quilts of course. Gee bend here we come.
