Altering materials. Distresing the materials. Creating with rubbish. Managing waste. Observing decay. Composting. Eroding. Performing the death cycle. Ashes to ashes dust to dust.
Many contemporary artistes have taken a look at the world and been struck by the extent of the ongoing dégradation of the Umwelt (our surroundings). This perishing quality informs their work.
While we are more familiar with assemblage artists making this point, there are photographers/materials artists who have approached the issue in distinct ways.
